A very rare 1938 Sparton "Polo Club" radio model 5008.
The black bakelite cabinet completely covers the chassis which rests on a wood base.
The beautifully sculpted cabinet includes an embossed polo game scene on the top,
and the original colorful marbled knobs add additional flair.
All examples of the Polo Radio are quite scarce, the rarest were the red or green plaskon versions.
Undamaged Polos are almost unheard of. The narrow grill columns are fragile and frequently damaged.
Other model numbers for Sparton Polos include 608 and 5028 seen in the ads below.
608B referred to the black cabinet version. 608W(brown-walnut), 608I(ivory), 608G(green), 608R(red)
(from 1939 Sparton brochure)
Strangely there is no mention of the top polo scene theme.
