Silvertone model 7008

Silvertone Radio model 7008 Candycane beetle cabinet

The 1940 Silvertone model 7008 "Commentator" has been nicknamed
the "candycane" radio by collectors for obvious reasons.
The colorfully marbled beetle plastic (the "Onyx" option in ads)
made each radio unique, some marbled more than others.
The cabinet fully covers the bottom-accessed chassis.
Due to the fagility of the cabinet, grille design and heavy chassis,
nearly all examples suffer hairline cracks to some exent.
It was also available in white plaskon (model 7006) or brown bakelite (model 7004)
and a similar model made with a metal cabinet.
Other models using this cabinet include the model 3411 and
models 3551 (onyx/beetle), 3451 (white), 3351 (brown),
and a model 7024 (brown without pushbuttons).
