The unusual colors of this model 42 Kadette Jewel, really stand out in the sunlight.
The Kadette Jewel models 40 through 48 have a beautifully designed deco speaker grille.
This and their small size make it very popular with collectors.
These were very early bakelite radios made in 1936 in Ann Arbor, Michigan by the International Radio Corp.
This Deluxe model 42 mahogany marbled bakelite cabinet was one of many color options.
The brown version below surfaces fairly frequently, but the "Jewel" in other colors;
red or white are seldom seen, and lavender (orchid), black or marbled cabinets are even more scarce.
Vintage Kadette Jewel advertisements show that models 42, 45-48 were usually not offered by distributors and retailers.
It is a very small radio, using only 3 tubes in its design. See the schematic below.
The Jewel radio chassis was also used in the rare Airite Deskset Radio.
