Point-of-Purchase Displays, Inc. Coca-Cola Cooler Radio
This is the famous bakelite Coca-Cola cooler radio that was sold by Point-of-Purchase Displays Inc. in 1949.
It uses the Majestic "Zephyr" 5A410 chassis with the same dial glass sans the "Majestic" name.
The red enamel finish was highlighted with silver accents on the handles and bottle opener.
The embossed "Drink Coca-Cola" and the "Have a Coke" and "Ice Cold" were painted white.
Many reproductions of this radio have been made in many different sizes over the years.
This orginal 1949 version is fragile due its unique construction.
The speaker grille ribs are often found missing or cracked and
the rear bottom cabinet corners had no protection from bumps and were easily broken.
The chassis is mounted on a plywood platform held by
slots molded into the bakelite case and secured by side screws.
This example survived with only some paint nicks and still has the original matching red plastic knobs.
